How to Make Aroid Soil
Time to repot your Aroid? This simple recipe will assist you in making Aroid a quick draining, moisture retaining soil mix.
I have found that using a 2:2:1:1:1 mixture provides the best mix of draining and moisture. That means we are going to mix two parts to one part. We will just hop in and you’ll see what I mean.
You will need:
- Potting Mix, any will do
- Orchid bark
- Perlite
- Sphagnum moss
- Agriculture Charcoal – optional
- Bucket
Use something for measuring, your hands, a cup, or a pot however you want to measure it it doesn’t matter. As long as you can measure it in some consistent way.
Take three scoops (handfuls, pots whatever you’re using) of the soil mixture and three scoops of the orchid bark.
Add one scoop of perlite, sphagnum moss, and charcoal (if you omit charcoal, add additional scoop of perlite).
Mix, mix, mix!
Once well mixed I like to check the soil consistency and make sure it’s well draining. I take the mixture in to a small pot and add a bit of water and watch it flow out, if it doesn’t flow with in 5 seconds I add more orchid bark.
That’s it, the soil is ready for use! Add it to Monsteras, Philodendrons any other Aroid. This soil will sure to make them happy.
