Where it’s from

The Philodendron Billitiae are from the lowland rain-forest of New Guiana in South America. They are characterized by their large, long green leaves and orange stems or petioles. They are vines with hearty aerial roots making them easy for cultivation.

Light

These are Rainforest plants and because of that you would think they need lower light, but for the best growth and the most beautiful leaves give it bright indirect sunlight. They are sun chasers so the leaves will all grow on one side if you do not rotate your plant. A challenge with this the leaves get quite large and droopy, this is normal and some people hold leaves up together with coated wire.

Water

Philodendrons like to be dry between watering, this one is no different. I suggest you plant your Billitiae in well draining Aroid soil. Water every 7-10 days or when the moisture meter says “dry”. They are easy to over water , look for sings of over watering such as yellowing leaves or dropping the leaf. I have also found that a humidifier really helps it thrive, trust me on this invest the $20 to get a small humidifier all your plants would be happy.

Don’t over Love

Don’t be fooled by the big leaves and home location, these are super easy plants. They are not picky, they love indirect light and easy watering. They will vine if you want to give it a moss pole but as I said above you could also suspend them with coated wire or you could do nothing and let it grow!

Now you know the basics on how to care for your Billietiae, they are easy and a wonderful addition to your collection.
